PADRES SWEEP AND CELEBRATE 400 WITH DUNSDON

Redcliffe Leagues Padres Baseball Club’s Major A Grade celebrated the 400th A Grade appearance for Danny Dunsdon when it swept All Stars in both games played last Sunday at Talobilla Park.  With Friday night’s game washed out a double header of 2 seven innings games was played which resulted in two emphatic wins for the home team. Game 1 was called early under the mercy rule as the Padres notched up an 11-1 win over the visitors. Brain Debert was in good form on the mound giving up just 3 hits and recording 5 strikeouts in his complete game. He was supported at the plate by Steve Greer with 3 hits, Matt Dawson with 2 hits and Carlos Prichard, Jay Nilsson, Lucas Bakker and Phil Schramm all with 1 hit apiece.

Game 2 saw Rodney Wodson, recently returned from college in America, throw a no hitter in his five innings with 6 strikeouts in the side’s 10-0 win. Offensively Matt Dawson with 2 hits, Steve Greer, Carlos Prichard, Phil Schramm and Dylan Raines with 1 hit were also in fine form. They were only overshadowed by Danny Dunsdon who playing his 400th game for the club went 3 for 3 with the bat. Dunsdon who started with the club in its foundation year becomes the first player to reach this historic milestone and was recognized after the game by the club. With these wins the team is closer to a finals berth for another year. With just 2 rounds remaining, the side travels to Windsor next week in yet another vital round of fixtures.

In the lower grades wet weather forced the cancellation of all other home games apart from the Major B Grade fixture which saw Padres upset competition leaders All Stars 4-2 in their bid to qualify for the finals. Wet weather yet again forced the cancellation of many junior fixtures on Saturday. The Under 16 Division1 Minor Premiers went to Surfers to play 2nd place locals the Dodgers. Dan Nilsson hit a long solo home run to centre field just before rain stopped play in the top of the 3rd forcing the cancellation of the match. In the few games played, the Under 14 Division 2 White team lost to Carina 10-1 whilst the Red team went down to Narangba 12-6 at Talobilla.  The Under 12 Red had a close 10-9 win against league leaders Narangba Blue also at home. Sean Warren and Lachlan Bradley both picked up key hits and provided the team with a strong pitching performance,
